CEL And cruise flashing :"( After service!!!

Postby gubbo » Thu Feb 27, 2014 4:45 pm

Hi guys, I've been away for the last couple of years. Car has done the rounds through the family over that time and has been used semi-regularly.
I've had the car since 2009 and at that stage it had 84K kms. It had it's last service in early 2011 at 95K kms. Car currently has 112K kms and still going strong but
definately needs some major maintenance.

I live in Melbourne and am more time poor than anything. Looking for a great place to get the car serviced.
Also clutch is currently on its way out (my sister obv can't drive manual very well) so would like to take this opportunity to get it changed over.

Lastly I think some new tyres are in order as well!

Some questions:
1) Where is a good place near st Kilda to get car serviced. Hopefully not overpriced.
2) Should i purchase a new clutch and get the place to service first, or just get them to source and replace clutch?
3) What tyres are people running nowadays? I have the std 18" rims on the 2006RB pre facelift.
Thanks!

I cant comment on most of your questions - plenty locals to you tho who could tho

For Tyres with good all round balance between handling, grip and wear. Toyo TEO+ is working for me presently. Quite and working well and not TOO expensive. On my RB Pre FL

Um, yes :p
hasn't been serviced in a LONG time :P
but it still runs great. Just that now i'm back and using it regularly, i want to give it the TLC it deserves.
Now does anyone know of a good workshop or do I have to go all the way to burwood to get it serviced :P

20,000kms on current oil?

I'd be dumping that quick smart, new oil filter, clean MAF, new air filter if needed, plus whatever else is needed in the logbook service.

Well good news on the maintenance front.
Went in for its major service after a long long time and everything is okay :)
No major issues which is lucky.

May need to replace the front driveshafts in future as there is a bit of vibration there, but nothing overly serious apparently.
Will also need to replace front control arm bushes as well.

At least everything is running fine :)

how annoying. friday night ended up getting a CEL flashing and cruise flashing.
Car started to drive like crap and idle really badly.
Now this is AFTER the service I had!

Not sure exactly what the problem is. Had to leave the car outside my sisters place and borrow one of theirs until I have time to go back and assess the issue.
Will be going back with some MAF sensor cleaner. Anything else that anyone can think of that it could be for a quick fix?

Also not sure if this is just me but where does the air conditioning condenser allow the water it pulls out from the ambient air to drain?
Does it do so right over the exhaust? I end up with what appears like a lot of steam at times. Checked the leaky fluid after i stopped the car and it's definitely water, not coolant or oil or anything. Any ideas?

My AFR sensor that failed had this kind of symptom.

Do you have a member nearby who has a code scanner?

Good luck.
