Supercharging H6

Posts specific to the 3.0 litre NA H6 engine

Re: Supercharging H6

I had exactly all those issues with the exception of the radiator claim put to me when I started out with my 4cyl NA Subaru engine in my Impreza, even the auto trans being too weak issue.

Well many dozens of installations later everything has proven to be unfounded, in fact as I started out the general consensus was that a Subaru 4 cyl NA engine could no be supercharged, many 100s of people had failed - it was a proven fact........ always costing themselves engines etc

Today, there are now many Subaru 4 cyl NA engines with both auto and manual trans running boost without issues, some are up to 10psi now on daily use. No one ever thought it possible, now its for certain that the motor is just as good at 10psi as say an LS1 V8 in a Commodore.

I doubt the H6 will be any different, I am aware of people with H6 engines in the UAE with day temp of 45C, there is no issue with engine cooling these owners say, therefore adding an SC in Australian conditions will not overly tax the cooling system.

Its likely because it is centrifugal supercharger, so gentle on the drive train compared to all other types and yet can deliver a good driving sensation.

There is no real secret, just dont ever break the rules and yes it is Rocket Science - you go faster :)

Thanks for the response Tim.

I have looked at all the threads now considering SC and am starting to reduce my concerns. I might even go as far as saying that I am starting to save my pennies..... now how can I convince the missus that:

1. SC saves fuel,
2. SC is safer,
3. SC is more efficient,
4. SC is............come on guys, help me out here

Don't you mean you'll get home more "reliably" to be with her. The "F" word is not one to use when discussing mods with my missus!

Phew - glad you clarified the 'faster' - 'mods' statement - I thought you were going to divulge some personal stuff about being too fast with the missus. Ah, actually, let's not go there. :D

i know its an old subject this one... but as above, why do you say people desire to avoid the ecutek? im on my p's and obv any power we can get without a turbo or sc is awesome. i am considering the ecutek tuning, but just curious as to why you say that first?

Because it is genreally more expensive than open source tuning and once you get your car tuned by ecutek you are locked to it and can only get it retuned by another ecutek authorised tuner, unless you pay to have it unlocked.

coyote has written some very informative posts on ecutek.

Here are some threads with essential reading on ECUtek

Also, some time spent reading through the "Tuning" section would be beneficial
