If there's ANY grease leaking out of the CV boot, get it fixed quickly. Otherwise you will be replacing the CV joint very soon!

Well I took my car back to the dealership and they insist the entire drive shaft needs to be replaced instead of just replacing the CV boot, because apparently it is not possible. I am extremely not happy about their service as they took my drive shafts and replace them with some refurbish parts from unknown sources while selling my old drive shafts to their contacts without informing me at any stage of the repair or in any of our conversation or asking for my approval.

What we do is swap damaged shafts for reburbished ones at a lower cost. Cheaper for the customer that way, and it helps the CV joint guys to keep stock up.

They should have informed you what would be done, even if it were under warranty.

If you just get the CV boot and clamps replaced and the joint regreased it is generally about $150, including parts. A whole driveshaft is about $200 (average) plus about $70 to fit it at a guess.

Alright then thanks for the info then, the labor cost was about $250 the pair of shafts cost $260 after they part changed my old ones. How long will these refurbished parts last? My original ones only lasted for a little over 62 000km.

62,000km isn't very much. I've seen them last almost double that. Aftermarket ones generally seem to be about the same life expectancy, near 100,000km.
