All workshops have signs. Raa, castrol, mobil. Whatever, that means nothing just shows what they use and recommend.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

The move from 10KKm service intervals to 12500 in the recent 5-8 years has not been due to any real advance in oils or engine technology but rather a advance in marketing. A car which is perceived to need less servicing is more marketable.

Haha do you think the manufacturer cares much about your car lasting much past 10 years? Or do you think buyers (especially fleet) do not care about total cost of ownership, the latter of which churn their cars after only 3 or 5 years.

The increase in intervals from 10 to 12.5KKms is only small but it makes a difference for the bean counters.

Gotta get back to work, how do you like your patty done?

How can I word this without being flamed in to oblivion.....

Subaru surely has some sort of agreement with Castrol? Does that come in to play as to why it's the only one that they recommend?
Also what about warranty.....if something goes wrong and someone at Subaru somehow managed to not put in Castrol when the customer didn't ask for something different.....?

they probably get a good price on oil through a national account. castrol have the best marketing of all the oil manufacturers, everyone knows and trusts the brand. so it makes sense for any workshop, dealership or retail outlet to reccommend them. especially if castrol has set up them up with a good deal.
