Anyone else have an issue when they accelerate and it drops to first gear, the clutch doesn't let go until about 5000 revs. kinda makes accelerating pointless... any fixes? is it an ecu problem or a clutch problem?

yeh mine does this. it annoys the absolute shit out of me.
it'll take off in second, then decide theres not enough torque i guess, and drop to first. sound and look like an idiot when it happens, which is often.
buying an auto lib is my biggest regret now

Seems to be a common complaint & I have personally experienced it in many different makes & models... But as long as you're double clutching you should be able to get it in, just might take a little bit of force as well

Ooops... For some reason I thought we were talking about a manual

Especially since there was a lot of talking about the "clutch"

If it's an auto, it should go back no problems providing your revs aren't too high in the higher gear... If this is the case you should hear a little beep to prompt you that it hasn't changed gears. If you want to to go in smoother, just give the throttle a bit of a tap to give it some revs on the down shift. This is what most DSG style boxes & even the boxes in the Gen 4 (Face Lifted) 3RB & the new Gen 5 do.

the problem isnt changing down a gear, its the auto will suddenly decide to drop down to first with no change in throttle position

Ooooooo... Geez I'm having a good day aren't I

Well that's just a typical auto thing. Maybe just don't mash the loud peddle so hard

yeh but you dont have to mash it.
best example, slow for the speed hump, you can feel its in second gear, then i'll take off at a crawl, no problem, then it belts down to first.
maybe a 2.5T 6 speed conversion could sort it?

^^^
I never had that problem when applying the throttle lightly.
Might have something to do with the GT & 3L having a 5sp Auto?

i wish i had one of the above.
I'll be getting the NTD throttle controller, so will see if that makes a difference at all

Highly doubt it would make any difference unless you dulled down the throttle sensitivity, which lets face it, is not what you would generally do when you buy that sort of mod / product.

Castek,
I'm not sure if it will solve your issue, but try resetting the ECU. If all else fails consult your dealer before spending $$$ ?

I've done the ecu reset but nothing changed.
I rekon it'll need a tune to sort it out properly
