Exhaust

Postby Laps » Tue Jun 01, 2010 9:31 am

This has been done a thousand times, however, my question is a little different.

I want to give my car a bit of grunt, but at the same time dont want it to sound like one of those tinny lancers, or have it so loud that I won't be able to sell it to anyone over the age of 25 (should that time come around).

I wat to put quad tips on, and im thinking thats all I will do. This will make it sound a bit better, but not too loud yeh? Ive decided not to go with the unequal length headers etc as this will cost a bit, and is uneccesary...

Since its hard to get STI or PHAT quads, I think I'll have to get a set custom made. Is there anything in particular I should ask to have done etc when requesting a custom exhaust?

I can't really help you with your custom exhaust question, except that there's nothing worse than a droning exhaust so make sure you drill it into them lol. But with regards with the PHAT and STi quads. On the 2.5i, they sound VERY different, I know this as I've owned both.

The STi's are raspy (which I like) and not that deep, I've likened it to an E46 stock exhaust but it really isn't in the same league cos the M3's got a straight 6, but if you've heard one before.. you'll get what I mean about raspy. Where as the PHAT's are very deep and give a nice burble.

I like the deeper sounds, similar to rexys etc. I know I will never get that with a N/A, but its the direction id want to head rather than raspiness. What is it about the Phats that give them the burble, its this kinda info I would want to be discussing with the exhaust shop.

DRN do you have sound clips from when you had the sti/phats on ur 2.5i?

Yeh some nice sounds there...

Only a few 2.5is have quads, but still sounds pretty good. Might pm the owners to find out what they did (ie. just mufflers, or other stuff on top).

I like both the HiTechs on NoOzL47's 2.5i, and the Phats on Julzzychan and Nytrojen's 2.5i. Pitty no one has a vid up with STI quads on a 2.5i...

What are HiTechs, where can you get them, and how much are they (if anyone knows lol)?

Alex I have Hitechs on my car and they are not too bad. The only thing I have notice is that the older they are the deeper they get.

There from Sydney from a guy called Lambros. http://www.hitechmufflers.com.au/home.php

His price changes from minute to minute and buy the person you are.

Nice,

Ill keep him in mind. Surely someone in canberra will be able to achieve the same thing though, Ill take sound videos with me when I enquire. Also, Im not sure if I want stainless steel or not. Id rather not have chrome mufflers as I have a dark look about my car, whats the go here?

From memory there is a good exhaust place in Braddon. Other than that i have never bought local because I have always been able to ge a better price elsewhere i.e. Sydney or forum members. Go the Phat quads if you want the stealth look.
