DIY intake pipe mod

I got the idea from the ZEROSPORTS intake pipe for the 2.5i & 2.0R Libertys but i didnt want to spend the almost $300 for something that would only gain minor improvements. I think its more cosmetic than anything. The intake noise is more noticeable and having used silicone hose instead of the metal pipe i think it will attract less heat from the intake manifold. Maybe little gains, but hey..every bit counts

All up takes about 30 min, and cost about $60
Ok so to get something similier i brought two 45 degree 3" silicone hoses, a length of 3" intercooler piping which i cut down to roughly 1 1/2" in length and a 3" hose clamp. You'll also need the 2 OEM clamps from the stock intake pipe.
Remove the stock intake pipe and place a hose on the filter box and posistion it at the correct anlge so it doesnt rub on the intake manifold, then place a hose on the upper intake box and position correctly. (I needed to trim the hoses down a bit on 3 ends with a razor knife to get all the angles and length correct so it all flowed smoothly, I also had to take a little notch out of the hose that mounts to the upper box so the hose fitted on just as the stock pipe did) Once this is done and it all flows nicely fit the hose back on the upper box with a OEM clamp placed around it. Then place the 1 1/2" metal pipe half way in the exposed end of the hose so half of it is still sticking out and tighten the OEM clamp around it to hold in place, but leave enough room for the larger clamp. Then fit the other hose onto the filter box with a OEM clamp around it and manouver the other end onto the metal pipe sticking out of the other hose. Then push the hoses againt one another and place the bigger clamp (not the OEM one) over where the 2 hoses join and tighten the clamp. Then loosen the OEM clamp next to the large one and posistion on the upper box and tighten and then tighten the one on the filter box end. Check for good fittment and that all the ends are sealed and that the larger clamp is actually covering the the join in the 2 hoses the whole way around. Also dont forget to have the pipe/ hoses clean as you dont want any dirt or particles getting sucked into the engine.
(my model doesnt have a air flow meter on the filter box pipe but im pretty sure its the same length, if not you just need to position/ trim the hoses down till it all flows nicely)
