Which timing belt kit?

Postby Ozigoo » Wed Apr 24, 2019 1:33 pm

Hi,
New to the forum and looking to do my timing belt.
Just wondering if anyone has changed their own timing belt, water pump, pullys etc. themselves and
if so which kit did they use?

My Liberty is a 2003 Gen4 2.5 AWD sedan EJ252 (non turbo) engine.
Theres heaps of info on the 251 and 253 engines but not alot on the 252's
I was thinking from what I have read that there all pretty much the same but buying parts from o/s its hard to
match up numbers...our Australian VIN doesn't seem to be recognised o/s and thus they cant say for sure they fit.

I was looking at getting a genuine kit and found this AISIN kit which uses genuine Japanese made parts.

I emailed the guy with a genuine parts list I got from Subaru in Victoria (below) but he said the belt, waterpump and one of the cogs was different?

So....has anyone had any luck buying a kit from Overseas or do people just by local and pay the extra to be sure...

Cheers

Jump on https://partsouq.com/ with your VIN number and they should give you the correct parts no worries.

I've bought heaps of stuff from that site, only issues I've ever had is when they run out of stock (of a particular part) and you don't find out until the rest of your order has been shipped, so you end up paying more in shipping when that part comes back.

Shipping is really fast too

I'd be keen to hear people's opinion on this subject too.
I am looking at Dayco or Gates kits online, I imagine that the Suburu original parts would be very expensive?

My engine builder reco guys use the aisin and ajusa kits without issues.
Just make sure you get the specific kit for your car, eg cross reference the part numbers vs your vin.
