I'm pretty sure my battery is the original fitment from when new and it's going on 5 years old and takes about 3secs to crank over the engine after parking overnight. I'm going to uprate it anyway as I'm moving the stereo from my old car into it.

The 2.5i has a pathetic sized batteru so I am going to fit a battery tray from the 3.0RB which allows much bigger batteries, and aftermarket tiedown rods + holder $10.00 from Supercheap. Will also upgrade the stock battery>earth cables to 2G and it should be fine for what I need.

Like Smythie said, the original spec does its job and is a good compromise between weight/dimensions/performance but when when you start adding load to the system it won't cope for long.

Where can you get a battery tray from? It sounds like a good idea..

Ive got MY04 2.5i and the battery is about to die soon.
Not sure if it's related to the battery or what, but the clock on the dash board was gone just few months ago.
(when the battery got enough, the clocks come back on sometimes though,,,)
Power steering has been weekened.

Better get the OEM battery changed.

The battery has little to do with power steering assistance - that's all hydraulic. The power steering pump is still driven off the crank

Subaru genuine part #82122AG001 "Pan Battery" which is from the 3.0R models and only $10.00. Fit this to the 2.5i and buy a generic 175mm battery tiedown from Kmart, Supercheap etc and you can fit a much bigger battery (X56D series) from Bosch, Century Yuasa Exide, etc.

Thanks. Is it really just $10.00 or is that supposed to be $1000 :P. Subaru genuine parts are so expensive.
Hmm I just bought a new battery not too long ago though..

Anyone interested in a near new battery?

$10 :) It's just a piece of moulded plastic and serves no purpose except to catch any acid which might spill out.
