Standard battery - Anyone had any issues?

Postby 2QIK4U » Thu Oct 09, 2008 11:15 am

Just seeing if anyone has had issues with their standard battery?

Correct me if i'm wrong but i've heard a rumor that the standard battery size was abit of a down fall?

Has anyone changed/ungraded from the standard unit?

Any advice/suggestions would be great :)

I transferred the Optima Red Top out of my old 01 RX Liberty into my Forester and it's still kicking along fine after 8yrs, it is yet to miss a beat.

At the time when I bought mine in Townsville from Battery World, Mt Isa Mines were replacing all their wet cell batteries with these Red Tops for their underground vehicles.

Not a 2.5, but my 3RB's battery died after 27 months from new. Only extra item from stock that affected the battery was the (Subaru genuine) alarm.

95+% of the trips in the car were at least half an hour, so it's not like constant short trips killed it.

When it went, it went quickly. For two maybe three days at most, it took a second or two longer to start than normal. Then the morning it died, my missus took it down to the corner shop to get some bread, then drove back home. I hopped in 15 minutes later to take the kids to school, and it was completely dead.

I know a lot of people say you should only expect 2 -3 yrs from a battery, but my opinion is that only crap batteries will last such a short time.

I guess, therefore, I believe the battery in my 3RB was crap :x

Hmm, my 07 TBSTi will be hitting two years soon, might get proactive about it now....

No, for its intended use, the battery is fine. Like so many other things, once you push them beyond (well beyond in the case of batteries and over the top audio installations) their original design parameters they won't cope for very long. I thought replacing the battery and investigating whether a bigger alternator was ncessary were the first two things any sensible audio modder did
