Coolant/Temperature Questions

Postby wikiwama » Sat Apr 02, 2016 4:59 pm

Long time lurker, recent-ish Liberty owner.

I'm not sure about the correct coolant temperatures and level in the overflow bottle, and am slightly concerned. The coolant temp usually sits around 94/95 degrees, with the temperature gauge sitting smack bang in the middle of it's range, but when I check the coolant overflow tank after driving it's a good 2CM above the full line. I'm not sure if it's normal, head gasket issues, or I'm just dumb

The coolant level should be between the FULL and the LOW marks of the overflow bottle when cold.
The coolant will expand when hot and migrate into the bottle and contract when cold and be sucked back into the radiator.
I top mine up to the FULL level when cold.

Being an alcohol, the Ethylene Glycol content will slowly evaporate over time and require topping up.
