Faulty OBD2 or by design?

My 2004 Pre-FL 2.5 Premium has an OBD2 Port under the dash, i bought a cheap reader off eBay for it, and i've confirmed it works fine in a friends Lancer, i've plugged it into my car and Torque Pro keeps telling me that it cannot connect to the ECU (Connects to OBD2 Reader fine and goes through the protocols) Is it because torque pro/my obd2 reader doesnt support my car or do i have a faulty OBD2 Port?

Have you already checked all the fuses?
I think #13 is a common one to cause this issue.

BtSsm might be an option, I logged an my05 outback recently using the ECU alias function.
Eg using the next nearest similar ecuid that I could find online...
Couldn't log it with the Tactrix.

Havent checked all the fuses no, just went and checked 13 interior fuse and no luck was fine i swapped it with a known good 20A fuse and nothing, cheers for the input

I also bought a cheap eBay Bluetooth reader. Threw it in the bin because it wouldn't work. Got what I paid for. Later found a couple of videos online suggesting that the cheap ones my not all that great. Better off paying a little more and the real deal, plus once I plugged it into my my07 it was a massive pita to get out. I'll stick to my obd2 hand held plug in computer for any future use.

Isn't there something with the ELM327 devices not working on our cars. Always heard that was the reason to avoid some of the cheaper ebay ones as they used that controller.

I know this is an old post but the subject seems to pop up from time to time.
Subaru in Aust and NZ didn't go full OBD2 until 2005 so the OBD2 scan tools available on eBay etc. don't work.
The best options I have found for the pre OBD2 cars is freessm and romraider.
I currently have both programs running on a win XP powered laptop and a win 10 x64 notebook.
