Help on possible head gasket?

Have a 97 rx Liberty and just noticed that around the coolant cap there was yellowy froth and empty coolant after a drive. So topped the coolant up and took it for a run, it used a fair bit of water and frothy on the top of the water. Is this crying out a head gasket failure or is there something else that could be wrong that I can check/test?
