Do You Know What These Parts Are Called?

Postby Tien GtB25 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 6:57 pm

HI guys,

I got Matt from Kido Tune to retune my car recently when he was in Melb and he also fitted the Pierburg solenoid for me as well. Thank again Matt.
While doing so he saw there was oil around the BOV return hose which needed to be change. He also indicated another hose that also will need to be change too. I cant remember exactly the name.

I went to Subaru Frankston and one of the mechanic looked at the car but was frickin useless to id the parts. ....

1- can you guys tell me the name of the hoses so I can order it from Subaru from pix below.
2- Matt was saying one of the hose can be purchase aftermarket but what are the advantages of doin so?
3- Any benefits from changing to hose No.3 on the pix?

Thanks guys.
Tien

1 - BOV return hose - 38mm hose.
2 - You mean the throttle body hose? It's not rubber stock, it's plastic, and it tends to blow out and prolapse the end gasket. Replacing it will avoid this happening, and it WILL happen.
3 - Inlet hose, replacing this gives you better airflow, and a small gain, plus the stock one falls apart and is crap.

Thanks Bob.
Re - the throttle body hose ... aftermarket is better than original part ? And because what u describe above made oil flow through to the BOV return hose ?

So much i dont know about boxer engines - thank god for you guys and this forum.

What shav said.

The oil in your BOV return line is oil from your intake, which is blowby from your engine. Install an oil catch can.

Yes but not immediately. Aiui it needs more tip in throttle enrichment because if the increased flow before the MAF can react.

Rang Subaru back and order the parts..... apparently there is not a single BOV return hose in the COUNTRY  ... it will take three weeks to come from Japan.

FIY - the official subaru technical name for the BOV return hose is called Bypass Air Pipe part No. 14465AA100 $124 thank you very much.
AND
accordingly to the young numbnut of a mechanic the Throttle body hose is called the Air Duct Intake Assembly.... I think the mechanic was on crack .. so I end up ordering a KobeMotorsport throttle body hose online for $80.

The inlet hose / MAF combo $250combo from KobeMotorsport will have to wait for now.
Thanks for the link/info to Shav/hardwarebob.

Ohh by the way ... Any recommendation on a oil catch can ? Brand name or ebay ???

A catch can is a catch can in my opinion. But for sake of looks when you lift the bonnet, Consider a stainless or anodised aluminium version maybe. Read this before you buy one so you get a greater understanding of how it is supposed to work. http://oilcatchcan.com
