still overheating after changing radiator.

Hi,

I'm hoping for a bit of advice.

Recelty my 2.5i overheated and the engine died after a 30 min trip at 100km/h.

When I looked at the engine to find out why, it was obvious. The radiator had a massive crack. I suspect a rock hit it.

Anyway I drove it home after using some epoxy to seal the crack (yes stupid).

So today I changed the radiator and tried getting all of the air out of the system. However it seems that there is no end to the amount of bubbles.
Also the overflow tank fills quickly.

I'm guessing the overheating from having no coolant has damaged my head gasket.

I'm going to try swapping the thermostat back to stock (it was replaced when doing my DIY timing service).
But if that doesn't help I'm not sure what to do.

I'm tempted to attempt changing the head gasket myself.

The other option is to find another engine to swap in. Is it worth considering an H6?

I figure those would he the most cost effective options.

Any help would be appreciated.

Very likely a headgasket or a leak somewhere in the coolant system (although probably not the latter)

When you overheat the engine, the metal/heads/block can warp quite easily among other not very nice things that come from extreme heat.

Best thing to do when you see the temp needle rising - pull over straight away, stop the engine, leave fans on.

Dropping in an H6 would require lots of other mods. Would be more beneficial and easier to turbo your car.

Depending on the extent of the damage to the block - you may need to replace the whole thing either way...best to let an engine builder take a look if you plan to reuse the block. MSR is a great resource for these kinds of jobs, can turbo it too. Goodluck dude!

Thank you for your input. I will try finding an engine builder (if there is one in Canberra).

Also what do you think about going for the Fa20?
Bit more power and would make for a good talking point?
