Hi all.

I Recently acquired an MY08 wagon. I'm noticing a rattle/clunking sound intermittently. Not particularly loud but not normal engine noise I'm fairly sure. I thought it might have just been a loose internal panel somewhere in the car but seems to be engine related. Noticeable at idle but seems to continue while driving. Any ideas?

Where abouts in the engine is it happening? Does it increase with rpm?

Could be anything from tappet/lifter noise to a big end bearing failure. Perhaps you could post a video of the car making that sound and we might be able to point you in the right direction.

So I got the car serviced and had the mechanic take a look at it. He reckons it's stones in the heat shields in the exhaust. They quoted around the $500 mark to rectify it which seems absurdly high. Wondering if people know what a reasonable price for a job like that would be?
