Exhaust Upgrade - Damage the Engine?

Postby Kontrl » Tue Apr 15, 2014 6:17 pm

Hey all,

Currently have a Subie 2.5i,

Was wanting to get its sound to resemble a WRX and the options in-which I have decided upon is.
1.UEL Headers
2. Varex Middle/Centre Mufflers
3. Catback (Magnaflow,Xforce)

Unsure of the exact brand/type of which way I''ll go (Any suggestion would be appreciated)

But just wanted to know would this setup (When Varex open/close) damage the engine? ( I persume power will change though.)

Thanks.

Hello again...

1/ With the setup I would HIGHLY recommend a tune
2/ Varex closed - dont fang it ( that simple )...you can drive spiritually....just not continuous WOT runs...
3/ Varex open - drive at your own pleasure

Chances of damaging engine is at the expense of NOT getting a tune...Vs flooring it with the varex closed.....

I have had a discussion with my tuner about my varex being open/closed and he has advised me to avoid as much as possible driving hard with varex closed. Why? Well cause your restricting flow at the end of the day.....If you ever pursue this setup and get a dyno tune? you can do a run with a varex closed/open to see what conditions change and if any? significant or not...
