Remove Engine Light

Postby NDJ93 » Tue Mar 11, 2014 9:57 am

After servicing my car over the weekend and removing a vacuum hose on the intake manifold my engine warning light popped up along with a flashing cruise control symbol. As I believe this occurred due to my removal of the vacuum hose I would like to get rid of the warning light by reseting the ecu. I have so far tried taking off my negative battery terminal and pumping the brake pedal to deprive the ECU of all power. This method has however not worked for me, I've contacted Subaru and they wanted $71 for a basic diagnosis with their Select Monitor. Any suggestions on how I may be able to overcome this issue will be much appreciated.

dont take it to subaru they steal your money. try and see if you can contact someone local on the forum with a tactrix cable or obdII port they will be able to read the code and erase it for you. 2min job

Yeah I thought it was a little steep for erasing the code. I suppose they did see my car was due for a service a few days ago and figured that I must have gone about it myself haha.

Sometimes it takes several starts of the engine before the CEL will go away (but the code will still be stored in the ECU until someone clears it).

How many times have you started it since you fixed the hose?

@Jake: I'm located in Berwick (South Eastern Suburbs)
@Robbks: Yeah I looked at that option but have an iPhone.
@Surge: The car has been started several times (approximately 10), but the code still hasn't gone away. I've also tried resetting my ECU several times by disconnecting the battery and pumping the brake pedal.

I'm sure if you take it to a nice subaru specialist (not the dealership) they would check the code for free.

Sure works, as I just changed my leads (now that I'm back in Melbourne-following my fun in Sydney !) and the light came back on :angry2:
Glad I looked on here as the light went out after 3 starts.

Thanks
