hey guys
im 17 and i just got my first car that is a 4th gen 2008 subaru liberty.I bought the cars from auctions with engine damage,so i took the car down to the mechanics to see what was wrong with it,but unfortunately the car had rod knock

, so i bought a crashed 2006 4th gen liberty pulled the motor out got the heads reconditioned timing belt done, gaskets ect . so i got the mechanics to put the motor in .it runs great drives, but the engine light cruise control will not go of, i took it to an auto elec but he could not get them to turn off,he later told me that the motor was actually different to the later model liberty, and that i have to change the engine.
Just wondering if anyone would know what i would need to do to get the lights to turn off without changing the motor
i was told to get the computer out of the car i got the new motor out if anyone could let me know exactly what i would need to change would be great

cheers

You may be lucky and a tune may be able to fix it. To know for sure you need to get the codes it's throwing then ask Kiddo or another decent tuner if there is anything they can do about it.

What model Liberty is the 08 and the 06? GT, 3.0R, 2.5i, etc?
Is the 06 a Pre-Facelift or Post-facelift? As in 2006 MY06 or 2006 MY07?
What is the Fault Code for the Check Engine Light when the mechanic plugs his OBDII scanner in?
Was the engine just straight swapped over or did you change the ECU/any wiring etc from the donor car?
Just some important information that we need before we can help ...

the 08 car is a 2.5i
the 06 car was 2.5i aswell and was post-facelift
the engine was swapped over without the ecu
not sure on what the code was

As far as I can tell you the engine should be the same then. You need an auto electrician or any mechanic for that matter to plug their Code reader in and tell you what the code is. There is literally hundreds of them

For all that effort it.probably would have been worth swapping for an H6, no?
But get yourself an elm327 CAN obd2 adapter off eBay for cheap and keep it around as it will be handy on more than one occasion.
Interested to know what's causing the CEL also.

Swapping engines like for like isn't that hard. H6 would be a lot more involved, ECU, wiring and a dozen other things.

Have you checked of those solenoids were plugged in correctly and the connections were clean?
Some quick research online also suggests that low oil level could also cause those codes to be thrown.

Off the top of my head, the 2006 Post-facelift (MY07) 2.5NA came with 121kw and the 08 onwards came with ~127kw.
So it may be why it's throwing the codes. I'm not too sure though.

You put a prefacelift engine into your post facelift car
The preface did not have dual avcs. The post face did
Your codes relate to the fact your ecu is looking for the exhaust avcs solenoids to activate, and the motor you put in there doesn't have them
Two options.
1. Swap the ecu in from the prefacelift car. This is not as simple as it would sound, as you will also need a few other things due to the canbus setup.
2. Swap the heads from your old motor onto the new one and plug the solenoids all back in
Not to rub salt into the wound, but this is precisely what shits me bout most mechanics out there. Don't give two hoots about the details and what's involved in a swap. Instead they just bolt it up and hope for the best.
The other thing you want to check and make sure of is that your mechanic didnt chop those two plugs off your wiring loom thinking they're not required anymore. This will make it harder that's for sure
Good luck
Mick
