Hey guys,

I got a 2008 Subaru Liberty and wanted to give it a quick service. I know that Subaru used to do the upper engine cleaner when i was servicing it under warranty and i figured i should continue doing that myself but am not really sure which hose i need to pull and spray the cleaner. Can someone please assist pointing out which hose i should use?

Thanks for the reply. Could you please point out where that is.

I always use the on for the fuel pressure reg.

it would be good if you could show which one it is on the image

i ended up undoing the throttle body and squeezing the spray nozzle in and doing it that way
didn't really see much smoke. the car has had this treatment in all the previous services so i guess it probably isn't accumulating much carbon in the body

I did it the same way as you and I didn't get much smoke either.
Also it was never done before that as far as I know.


The method I used was to spray it while I had someone push the accelerator to keep it from stalling.

I might try the second method of spraying in 1/2 a can with the engine off and letting it sit before starting following up with the second 1/2 of the can.


Maybe letting it sit will let it work better.

But I'm worried bout flooding the engine.

Read the can, the method you just mentioned is what is suggested on the can. You won't get any smoke if you don't let the engine sit and let the foaming and heat do it's thing.

I did have about third of the can in engine with 2x 5-10 minute breaks and then got my son to push throttle as I was adding the rest in obviously while running it.

You can purchase a Subaru branded one from their service or you could go to your local auto parts store and get one. I used Threebond 6601j but there was only that and a Nulon one. The dude at local store said Subaru one was basically just a rebranded one of these ones i got.

you can see what it does here basically. When you spray it in the upper body, it is meant to loosen up the carbon deposits like this

It seems that Liberty type engines from Subaru don't get as big a problem with such carbon deposits from what i've read on various forums when i researched it a bit

Personally, I’d loosen the plenum throttle-body hose and jam the straw in to hit the throttle blade.

Then there’s a hose on the left hand rear of inlet manifold in a fairly central spot to add uec for the inlet manifold soak.

Either way follow the general procedures here and blend the intent to suit turbo (use bov reference hose) or n/a (see above).
