V-Power vs. BP Ultimate

Postby turner_822 » Thu Jun 13, 2013 4:31 pm

While the 2.5i is tuned from the factory for 98oct fuel, there seems to be no trouble in running 95oct. I have always used BP Ultimate in my car as I had it tuned when I first bought it to get rid of the disappointing throttle and accelleration lag. I only chose BP for convenience.

Now that my car is heavily modified, running a stage II supercharger, I thought I would open the debate as to which fuel runs best. I would hope they have a similar level of performance, but just thought I'd see if anyone has any experiances to share? The good, the bad, the strange.

Logging data and insight from the tuners would be great.

I find BP to be more consistent.

No difference between the two for me, BP is closer so usually use that.

But I have noticed my gen 2 loves V-Power, can't log it, but suspects it pulls the timing for other fuels (BP Ultimate and other premium fuels)... Pity I don't love it enough to run 98 all the time :P

I haven't noticed a difference between the two.

80% of the time I'll fill up with BP though because it's around 7c/L cheaper at the servos near me. :)

BP 100%. As others have said, more consistent and servo is 1 kay up the road from me so it's a no brainer :P

never noticed a difference personally..
used v-power religiously in the subaru for 2 years, switched to BP and no difference as far as i could tell
no data or logging to back this up though lol
if you ask me i'm fairly sure there's a fair amount of placebo and imagination involved, but each to their own I don't want to start any wars here

An independent NATA accredited lab contact whose sole purpose is to test fuels and gasses told me there's much of a muchness between BP, Shell and even Caltex premium fuels in terms of consistency and performance.
However, united on the other hand....

Docklands STi recommended BP 98 over Shell 98 as the detergent pack is less aggressive with BP 98.
So I stick to BP and use Shell and Caltex occasionally.

Does premium fuel make much difference in the non turbo models?
Sometimes I think I feel a huge difference difference And others I think its all in my head.
