Replacing sparks, oil found!

Postby damianzmd » Tue Apr 30, 2013 4:21 pm

So yesterday I attempted to replace my spark plugs on my Liberty EJ25, when I noticed a fair amount of oil seeping through the insulator boot. Quickly went and got some valve cover, spark plug gaskets and cover washers and replaced them all this morning - was so easy!

Still haven't attempted to change the sparks, as this is my first attempt - I'm a little worried about the oil. What's the correct procedure to ensure I don't stuff it up. How would I go about cleaning the oil out of the tubes and what not. Also being my first attempt would anyone be so kind as to link me to a nice guide to changing the sparks on the EJ25, and which tools I'd need. I have a 5/8" with a 3" extension, but it didn't seem to reach inside :/

Thanks in advance.

I use a 5/8 (16mm) socket with a 6 inch extension or 2x 3 inch extensions.

Cleaning the oil, air blower and degreaser. or just remove the plugs, spray some degreaser (a light amount) fit the plug and crank the engine. Then move onto the next plug. Cranking the engine between each plug will help prevent hydraulic lock.

Take the battery and back of the air box out.

Thanks for the replies,

The battery and air box are already out, since I had to change the valve cover gaskets and spark plug gaskets anyway. I'll try some compressed air or something to get the oil out. Does it matter if a little bit of oil falls into the engine while trying to change the sparks?

Nope. Little bit won't harm it.
