Will This Engine Fit?

Postby miller0 » Sun Mar 17, 2013 2:24 pm

Hey guys,

My mate literally put a hole in his engine block the other night.

I've come across a possible replacement engine, but I'm hoping someone here can confirm that it will definitely fit my mates car.

The possible replacement is out of a 98 Bilstein Edition Liberty - VIN: JF1BD9KE5WG
The car the engine is needed in is an 02 RX Liberty - VIN: JF1BH9KR53G

Comparing the two VINs, is anyone able to tell me whether or not the engine from the 98 Bilstein Liberty would slot into my mates 02?

Won't be a plug-and-play fit as you've got a Gen II quad cam going into a Gen III SOHC. There will be differences in the wiring looms. Quad cams also had issues with blowing head gaskets so I'd pass on that one and get a later model 2.5 from a Gen III.
