Hey, if you're interested in what is required for a supercharger build, this post lists it all for stage I and stage II.

http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18923

As Hyrax said: stage I brings a 2.5i up to WRX power with stage II pushing STi power. Many will say just get a GT and they have a very valid point. As others have shown, there is so much work involved with putting a turbo on an NA car, and you will need a VERY good mechanic that is willing. However I enjoyed experimenting with my car, I learnt so much and I'm certainly enjoying +185 atw Kw

Prices are on the Raptor SC website. Non-intercooler stage I kit starts at $3,100 plus tuning. The great part is: it opens the door to easily add on the intercooler system or go to stage II at a later time.

http://www.raptorsc.com.au/kits.php?id=72

Everything in included in the kit except for tuning, which can be done remotely with simply a laptop and a cable to connect to your ECU (must have DENSO ECU, or a replacement is needed) The big advantage: you can do ALL the labour yourself!! It is a bolt on kit and VERY easy to follow the instructions and install in a couple of hours, no exhaust work needed too. Trickiest thing is swapping over fuel injectors. PLUS: this is a proven system with tonnes of technical support.

this cannot be emphasised enough. In fact, I have a shirt that says "DENSO or bust"

I was contemplating all these options for my 2.5i also unfortunately for me I have a 05 which has a hitachi ecu. So my ecu can't be tuned at all. The good thing for you is you have a denso ecu which can be tuned.
I haven't investigated the turbo route but I have investigated swapping my ecu.
I have found a place that are willing to do it for $4500 once I have the aftermarket ecu I can look at supercharging :)
For you tho your 4k will get you the supercharger kit if u install yourself and then get it tuned.
For me to get the same result I have to get a new ecu and then pay for the supercharger !
That's why I was advised to sell my car but I'd prefer the linear power delivery of the supercharger no lag !

$4500 for an ECU ad tune???????

Keep shopping ;) MoTec ECU would be $2500 plus $1000 on tuning

Got quoted 3600-4500 depends on whether they need to re wire the harness or not here's hoping the ecu is plug and play :)

Its gotta be the more expensive ECUs dude, as they have to support FBW. So the Vipec V44 or above, and a MoTec M84 or above (personally running a M800, not sure if the M84 supports FBW).

Since he is removing the factory ECU, it does not 'need' to be FBW, conversion to cable is quite easy. I am all for DBW but it does not 'need' it when going aftermarket ECU.

Different engines... coil packs, DBW throttle system(Hitachi, not Denso), crank angle sensor trigger wheel, cam trigger wheels etc
