Late post but always seems a relevant topic.

Purchased 2006 Lib (2.5L) in early 2012, fuel economy was terrible (around 11L/100kms), added all the Subaru additives, did a full service straight away (upper engine clean, etc), started on 95 PULP (Vortex) then 98 V Power (both delived similar results), Big diff in fuel economy came with the switch to Castrol 5w30 magnatec oil (not sure what previously used). Now I consistently do 9.4-9.5L/100km city and around 8.0/100 for hwy.

i have done 2 melbourne to Brisbane trips in my gen4 2.5i auto

both times over 3000kms i avg 7.6ltr - 100km at one point we were pushing for a almost 800ks from a tank and that includes all the fracking towns that drop you to 50 from 110!
and one time from Sydney to goulburn got 7.2 on the Hume that was interesting

My comute sees me in mostly 40 kph streets fairly usesless traffic and extremely heavy fuel consumption due to sitting in traffic on the way home. during the working week if i only drive to work im looking at around 13-14ltr to the 100
traffic also turns me into a lead foot :angry2:

on and all that on 91 tried 98 for 2 tanks didn't notice a difference

Recently I have tried to test of there was any more power to gain from 95 or 98 in a very crude way.
I used an obd Bluetooth adapter to see what the highest HP figure I could get using 91/95/98.
But the difference in nightly temps recently seems to be making more of a difference so I can't get accurate figures.

Anyway I don't feel any extra power and don't notice any extra fuel savings on any fuel. I do regularly change between difference fuels and I'm looking to see a difference but I simply don't see one.

My old 2.5 got 10-11l/100km and if I drove sedately I got 9-10 (I live in the hills, sedate is hard to do) my missus got 8-9 when she had it and we got 6.8 driving to Melbourne.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

I wouldn't mind so much the N/A Liberties having such poor fuel economy if the straight line performance wasn't so lacklustre. A friend of mine sitting in my passenger seat once observing my fuel consumption readings said "it's like a slow V8"

My Auto averages about 12.5l/100km around town with a mix of conservative and enthusiastic driving and you really have to floor it when over taking or getting up a steep hill.
I read somewhere that boxer engines are not renowned for their fuel efficiency. I would think the AWD system contributes somewhat to such economy but I wouldn't want to be getting rid of the cars best feature either.

On long open road trips is the only time I will get good readouts. Sydney to Melbourne I can manage around 7L/100km or better and around 800kms from a tank!

I'm with you on this! Most of my driving is short trips around the suburbs and I'm averaging usually mid to high 12's at the best under fairly sedate driving with the occasional squirt here and there. I wouldn't mind it so much if the car wasn't so slow! It does dip dramatically though once I get it out on the highway... lowest average it managed was 7.2L/100k's driving back from Warrnambool but the minute I'm back in traffic it shoots up pretty quick again.

I've recently noticed the impact E10 unleaded is having on my economy. It keeps me around 12L per 100km where's standard 91 unleaded drops me down to around 10 or 11L per 100kms doing the same driving so it has a real impact. However need to consider that E10 is cheaper and because my liberty feels twice as responsive and pulls harder on E10 (must be the higher octane) I will actually keeping using it over any other fuel.

I really noticed the performance difference running 91 unleaded last week - what a slug

I use 98, Have done since Pre-Supercharging.

Pre blower I was doing about 600 per tank (but I tended to blast it all the time).
Post blower I usually fall somewhere between 500-600 a tank. On this particular tank I have been on a cruise so it will be interesting to see how far I get.

Anyone using any fuel tracking apps on their phones? I just got "My Cars" so hopefully get some decent stats in 2 months after a few fill ups

My '04 NA 2.5 does 7.8ish on the highway and doesn't get any worse than 11 around town (in canberra) and i've only used V-power in it since I bought it 3 years ago

Just on the topic of fuel types:

Girlfriends gen 3 2L n/a gets 9.8/100km on 98 but the performance gains are huge.

My 2.5 gen4 runs best on 98 also, but because of my k&n my fuel consumption is around that same 9 figure around town, although I like to give it a lashing every now and again so I'm quite pleased with the results I'm getting

From the last 6 tank running 95 i've got between 8.31-8.80L/100Km (Bulk of country/hilly driving)

For the past 116,892Km's average fuel has been 9.343L/100Km (about 50/50 highway & town) on 95

Using Vortex 98 or BP Ultimate my 2.5i averages 10.6L/100km. I recently changed locations for work which means 2 minutes down the road and its up to 11.8 :angry2: wtf!

Trip to Huskisson over the weekend saw me down around 7.2L and my overall average dropped from 11.8 down to 10.
