Hey guys, so just want to compare everyones fuel economy.

I use 95 Premium fuel. Other than removing the resonator the engine/car is completely stock.

According to the cars trip meter I'll average 6.8 to 7.4 when i'm just doing highway driving.. which gives me roughly 800kms to a tank
When doing a mix of around town/city/highway driving I average more like 7.8 to 8.4.. which gives me roughly 600+ kms.
That's driving mostly like good citizen would

When I like to give it some around the place it sits up higher at around 8.8 to 9.6. But i'll still pull 600 from a tank.

I consider these to be pretty decent figures.. especially considering I use to drive a 95 Rodeo lol.

So how does my cars fuel economy compare to yours ?

My bone stock 04 manual is getting just about 10km/l = 10l/100km in mostly inner suburb driving, using 91 fuel from where-ever is closest. I can get around 11km/l = 9l/100km if I'm very careful in my area with moderate traffic. My car barely ever gets much highway mileage so my fuel economy really isn't that great, and I also can't really expect much better. When I drive it spiritedly though, the fuel economy really doesn't change that significantly, and I can still manage to get around 7km/l = 14l/100km.

On the other hand, my parents 08 stock auto is absolutely terrible compared to mine, using same fuel; but they just throw it in D and go, giving them around 8km/l = 12l/100km which I honestly don't know how they get considering they do the same type of driving as me and also drive a lot slower too. I haven't really done a fuel economy run in it at all so I really can't compare between my two cars, but I will definitely give it a try when I can.

I suppose your figures really aren't comparable, I wish I could get that much out of a single tank.

We get about 600km per tank on average running E10. I reset one of the trip meters when I bought the car and it sits about 9L/100km.

Doing the highway driving is definitely a money saver.. butt then you rack up heaps of km's on the car

I find keeping it on cruise control on the highway helps with my fuel consumption too, I guess because the car stays a steady speed.

I'm not a fan on E10 for some reason.. I prefer to only ever use 95 Premium unless I need fuel bad and only 91 Unleaded is around.
I considered trying 98 premium but I don't think there is any point in a N/A 4 cyclinder.. isn't only really benificial with the higher powered cars i.e. V8's ?

E10 has an octane rating the same or higher than 95 because the ethanol acts as a booster. I wouldn't bother running 98 in a n/a 4 pot. waste of money I think. each to their own though.

Does anything 'better' than 91 actually have any perceivable effect on the 2.5i's performance or fuel economy? I thought the recommended was 91. Have any of you actually noticed a reasonable difference between say, 91 and 95?

I found that 95 gave me a better fuel economy than 91 (but I didn't work out if it was worth the money).

98 actually saw a drop in fuel economy for me. Didn't feel like any noticeable performance gains either.

As for my consumption, usually it depends on the type of driving I do. Usually it's city driving the majority of the time and usually get high 10's.

I don't see any noticeable gains on 95 and I do a fair mixture of city and highway driving.

Either the gen 4's have better fuel economy than the gen 5's or im a lead foot.
I average 500km per tank, i only ever got to 600 when i filled the tank to the brim on 95octane. My driving consists of 70% city 30% highway.

Any other Gen 5ers fill their tanks with 91 with ethanol? The label on the fuel cap said unleaded only so i've only been using 95 since i first drove the car from the dealership.

It should say in your owners manual the recommended fuel rating.

Going to and from work (14.7km each way), mostly 80km/h roads, and plenty of traffic lights, I get 8.8 to 9.2 L/100km. This gives me around 400 to 450 KM per tank of petrol.

Best I have gotten was 700KM round trip from Melbourne to Falls Creek. Ended up on 8.2L/100KM. Even after all the twisties in the mountains.

Geez, I seem to be doing alright for my tank then !
I usually wait till im pretty low on fuel then fill the tank up half way, then repeat. And I'm getting 350-400 from the half tank.
When i'm working im doing 1hr highway driving a day, plus the evening run into town or drive through Ipswich (lots of lights).

I am getting somewhere around 450km - 500km per tank doing a mix of highway/city. The kilometre per litre rate varies betwen 8.6 and 11.4 usually, although I feel the rate per/litre rate is less an indication than how many kilometres you get from a tank.

2.5i's only require 91 which is great when the fuel price is sitting at $1.50 and is actually one of the reasons I didn't go turbo, as I have to drive for work. That being said, I almost exclusively use BP Ultimate (98) which makes the car feel more responsive, at the expense of slightly fewer kilometres per tank.

I put 98 in my 2.5i I get between 500-550 kms per tank and it's all city driving. I don't do any freeway driving at all. Last year I went to visit a friend who lived 5 hours drive away and that was all 110 zone after i got out of the city after 45 mins the rest was on cruise control I got 880 kms before my fuel light came on, on that trip.

I've always put 98 octane fuel in my cars so I can't compare fuels although my other car is a Toyota starlet 1.3 litre I put 91 in that and get the same amount of kms from a tank as I do the liberty and the tank has 15L less compacity !

Seems like the Libertys are definately good cars for nice long cruises
