High Fuel Consumption - O2 Sensor

Postby baldacchino » Mon Dec 10, 2012 2:17 pm

Hi Guys,
I have an 07 Liberty with a 2.5i engine. The car has 67,000km on the clock

Around 25,000KM ago the car developed a CEL fault with the error code of bank 1 to lean.
I cleaned the MAF, it didn't help. I then put my friends MAF in from his 05 STI and the problem went away. I then purchased a new MAF and the issue re-appeared. We swapped MAF's (my new one for his old one) and the problem went away.

Moving on what I have noticed is creeping in the consumption of this car. My wife drives it like a grandma and prior to the MAF issues it was doing around 7.2l/100km and now its more like 9.6l/100km.
It was recommended to me I replace the O2 with the MAF but I couldn't afford it at time.

Questions I have is
1. Could it be the O2 sensor?
2. There doesn't be any easy way to test
3. Does anyone know what the part number is or what to buy? (an ebay / website link would be appreciated)
4. Do I need to buy a Denzo / NGK?

I want to fix this as cheaply as possible.

Any help is appreciated

Sounds like you bought a faulty MAF.

Take it back to where you bought it and tell them your fault hasn't gone away and you'd like to exchange it for another.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

Get someone to check the plugs first as a dirty faulty plug can cause issues due to too much resistance. A new plug is a lot cheaper than and MAF or O2 sensor.
