So my car will be up for a new clutch after Christmas and I'm starting to look now Ito options.
I want to be rid of the dual mass flywheel set up because that screech is annoying
I've searched the forums and still haven't found a definitive answer :/

I've seen a lot of people bag out Exedy clutches but I'm still open to them.

What clutch would be recommended for a Gen4 2.5i?

If anyone has any recommendations on where to get them from and how much they are that would be awesome too

I replaced my dual mass with an OEM single mass excedy...I don't really like the clutch, very rattley and doesn't handle hard launches and is just generally not that great.

I have heard that the heavy duty excedy clutch is a good option. Or you could just go with a subaru single mass conversion kit, which is like $1,000 I think and then whatever it costs to install. Compared with the excedy, I think you only save about $200 or something. I haven't heard anyone using the genuine parts before so I'd be interested to know if they are quality or not.

Single mass Exedy Heavy Duty organic. Handles hard launches fine (even when I had this clutch with a supercharger).

I'm pretty sure I got an exedy hd clutch with single mass flywheel when I got my clutch replaced. I've only just started trying higher launches handles 4000rpm launches well. But it's pointless doing them anyway in a 2.5i anyway coz there's no power behind it and by the time the car gets goin from the launch ur in that rpm range just before ur at peak torque so it feels like there's a massive dip in power after u launch it...... I NEED A KiDO TUNE !

Probably not relevant to Subaru but a guy at work had an excedy hd clutch put in his SS and it shat itself after 20000kms. He doesn't even drive it hard. Have read things like that happening a lot with excedy.

I replaced my clutch with genuine with a genuine Subaru Single Mass flywheel conversion kit and, whilst it does the job fine, I don't like it.
It is WAY too light and the friction point is a mile long making smooth changes a challenge.

yeah going to a single mass will make it higher and lighter from what people have told me. Gen4's are hydraulic yeah? i don't think you can properly adjust them.
I've heard of some dodgy way to slightly adjust it by changing the actual distance that the pedal travels.

From what I'm told, it's just the type of clutch that Subaru use with a single mass, it's a light street clutch. I questioned whether changing to a sports flywheel would work, he couldn't guarantee anything
Gen 4's are hydraulic I believe, no adjustment I'll have to google the pedal adjustment and see what I can find.
My mechanic recommended it over a sports clutch because I'm a learner, he didn't realize that for the first month of my L's I learnt how to drive in a WRX and an S15 XD I'm still in the frame of mind with the clutch, having to build the revs before letting it out and balancing it. The Liberty's clutch is too light and daily driver for me. It's nice in traffic though XD

yeah i love the low clutch point in mine. makes driving a little less painful. unfortunately for me, mine is very heavy. man my foot gets sore after lots of traffic

It's better than mine believe me. Give me a heavy clutch any day. The clutch point being so high is a pain in the ass, and I think it's different from taking off than it is shifting. Could just be me though.
Everyone has commented on how light it is.

Sorry about that lol, I was expecting a little more resistance! Mine has a heavy clutch, pretty much have to put it in neutral if I'm not moving for a while

Yeah, heavy clutches are quite annoying (WRX in traffic, second day of my L's - kill me now) but I prefer it to a clutch as light as mine.
I'd bet any money you'd prefer your clutch for driving than mine, traffic situations excluded

I agree. The screech is heck annoying and it's too light either way. if you guys are telling me that the OEM Exedy clutch ain't much better then I'm definitely gettin a HD one. Does anyone know how much I should be payin? $800? Or has the part number for the EJ25 in the BL Liberty?

Mines the OEM Subaru Single Mass Flywheel replacement, not an Excedy.

To replace the dual mass with installation I payed $1400. Seems to be on the money for what everyone on here has paid.
