MY08 Subaru Liberty SUPERCHARGER BUILD (2.5i 5MT ADM)

Postby turner_822 » Wed Aug 29, 2012 5:21 pm

Hey,

I got this car at a great price (95,000km on the clock) so ever since then I have been looking to spend what I saved to make it something special. I have since decided on a intercooled supercharger from Raptor Superchargers. http://www.raptorsc.com.au/
So far I been trying out a few things with the car such as:

-Front and rear strut bars
-Lightweight crank pulley
-Cold air intake
-Tuning by west_minist (Edward Millington) of Xtreme Racing Tuning http://www.xtremeracingtuning.com/
http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13414
-X-Force 2.25 inch cat-back system including hi-flow cat

For the SC, I have had to get a few things done:

-WRX injectors
-OMNI (3 bar) MAP sensor
-Innovate Guages for oil temp/pressure http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/MTXD.php and wideband http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/MTXL.php

west_minist pointed me in the right direction with the guages and what needed upgrading and provided the roms to get the injectors and MAP sensor working. Most of the SC kit arrived today and I felt like a kid at Christmas unwrapping it all. I plan to get this all together over the next few weeks and again, west_minist will be doing the tuning and i'm sure he will post the graphs :)

stay tuned!!

What sort of power output are you expecting/hoping for?

It'll be good to see how it pans out.

Is this the first raptor 2.5 on the forum?

I'm aware that the price makes the GT the obvious choice and its much safer then boosting an NA engine...respect! but I got this car cheap and I wanted to try something different and learn as much as possible in the process.

I found one other SC build that sort of gave me the inspiration. That and the youtube videos ;)

I'm not sure on power gains, west_minist will be able to give you a better idea of what he wants to achieve with the tuning. The topic above has a dyno graph showing 151 wheel kW.

Excellent effort! Best of luck and look forward to hearing how it goes.
BTW, the gauges look great and blend into the A pillar very well. :ok:
I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!

good luck with the build dude =) be good to have another SC'd lib on here
Question, do you have a Hitachi ECU or Denso (or equivalent) ECU?

oh also, are you currently running a dual-mass or single mass flywheel?
I can recommend that you change to a single mass + organic HD clutch
and if you have the cash lying around, goto a 6MT box (i made the change and it is a waaaay better box than the 5MT)

Also, are you able to get the engine bay shot from the reverse angle?? I just want to have a closer look at where some of your hosing goes

Thanks for the good advice!! I am still thinking on what to spend money on next...either brakes/suspension/bars or 6MT/HD cluthch+SM flywheel. Wish I could do both but this build has taken a nice chunk out of the savings so the drive upgrade might have to wait. Alllllso want to complete the exhaust system, I started with hi-flow cat and the back system but still need to replace headers...I put it on my "to do list" because I didn't plan on SC...then I saw pictures and changed my mind lol.

ECU is Denso. Here's a couple of extra pics I had handy of the engine bay (in dire need of a detail...)

I would advice on brakes and the clutch, including pressure plate if available.

Would seriously recommend the Brembo upgrade (small upgrade in my opinion, since these do not last even on an STI)

All the best in spending and chose wisely.

+1 to what Edward said. Get some decent DBA rotors and some nice pads if you can't afford bigger callipers/rotors
Then go the swaybars and HD clutch/SM Fwheel. Be aware that if you are going 6MT, you will have to change out the clutch and Fwheel again =)

turner_822 wrote:Alllllso want to complete the exhaust system
Hmm, this is a strange one. If you leave it till after the SC, you may need a retune (thoughts Edward?)

turner_822 wrote:ECU is Denso.
Win! Mine was Hitachi, thus had to be replaced

OK! Now to the fun stuff. Apologies in advance for the photos, as I took them in the garage just now using the phone torch as a spotlight

Raptor shipped you a mounting bracket that bolts to the manifold, in your pic, it is under the WTA cooler (kinda looks like a gun). If this is the same bracket as was shipped to me, it will need to be modified (either yourself or sent back to raptor). It will need a notch machined out of it so it clears a fuel rail:

And closer

Next up, in your engine bay photo, I can clearly see the clutch reservoir located just underneath your brace

This will have to be moved. In my install, it was near-abouts where yours is (red circle) to here (green circle)

ALSO in your engine bay, these 2 hoses coming out of your block
Engine Bay2.JPG
Engine Bay2.JPG (247.97 KiB) Viewed 22399 times

Will need to be rerouted slightly

Maybe I should have taken that photo a bit better =)

Unfortunately, our motor is slightly different to the Impreza motors, so its not a straight-forward install

Pop the bonnet and start sizing up where the brackets/hose/piping are going to mount, and please let me know if you think you are going to have similar issues :)

Hey Blademaster, thanks for the advice! Its much appreciated. Funnily enough I had poured through those exact photos and came to the same conclusion RE: 2 hoses coming out of block and clutch reservoir. They will have to be moved a little *sighs* but like you said, big win with the Denso!

Raptor SC were pretty picky about pictures around the injector shield and I believe they have added the extra notch
