4AT gearbox issue

So did a search but to no avail.

I have a problem with my gearbox & the safety feature in which you can't take the car out of park and put into drive/reverse etc etc without your foot on the brake. Occasionally, this doesn't work! Sometimes I literally need to push my foot through the floor on the brake to release the gearbox from park.. Even then sometimes I can't get it

Has anyone experienced this issue?? is it a solenoid? Low brake fluid (which can't be possible as I've checked it time and time again, air in the lines?)

Any help is appreciated.

IIRC the interlock between shifter and brake pedal is a cable, maybe the cable is sticky.

There is an issue with some A/T shifter gates and switches, depending on model and year. If you go into a dealer they should be able to fix it in an hour providing they have the part in stock.

Sorry should have posted a resolution.

Got under the dash and had a look at the brake light switch & loom that connected to it. Dodgy connection, bit of dust & dirt in there. Cleaned it out & reconnected and haven't had a problem since.
