Supercharging a MYO8 2.5i

Postby 2008Liberty » Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:52 am

G,day fellow liberty owners!

Recently bought myself a 2008 pearl white liberty 2.5i sedan!
Im considering all the different options when it comes to giving my car as much performance output as i can!

I understand getting a turbo setup or supercharging it will be a big job, rather expensive and therefore would make more sense to just go out and purchase a 2.5T etc.
However im willing to try something different and give this a good crack. I mean after all, you would struggle to find a Supercharged liberty anywhere.

Im very curious to hear everyones thoughts and opinions on this and everything that would be involved in it:)

Look forward to hearing from you all!

I've heard of supercharging being done.. should show up with some googling.

http://raptorsc.com.au/kits.php?id=20

Some boys from legacygt where talking about the kit above.

Like you said, probably cheaper and easier to buy a 2.5T. But I think it would be really cool, as long as you are doing it so you have something a bit different and unique!

In reality, you CAN turbo or supercharge any engine. How long it will last is another issue. hopefully some guys on here can give you some more insight than just a straight out 'no'.

Cheers Mike!

Definately something interesting to look into i think!
As it says on the link you sent me " http://raptorsc.com.au/kits.php?id=20 ", supercharging a boxer engine is a huge untapped potential when used in conjuction with modified camshafts and cylinder heads. Would love to be able to make this happen and run some unique monster liberty with a supercharger:)

In saying that though my options are open anything, just looking at a supercharger first up:)

3 words - Don't do it

Unless of course your not keeping the car for long or a willing to destroy a good engine. :D
Pushing air into an engine that is designed to suck it will massively increase the compression
and stress out a lot of major parts of the engine. I've seen a nissan n/a engine go bang
literally days after being turboed.

Make sure you do a lot of research before doing.

If done properly, it can work.

Mark (MH3.0R) supercharged his H6 and it is working fine.

DeMobBoss twin turbo'd his H6 and its still working fine.

Provided it is done properly, it can work quite well.

One step back from supercharging to consider is some plain-jane tuning of what you've got already. I had my 2.5i tuned by XRT (tuning by email) and I got a 10% gain in power and a 10% gain in torque. Feels like a whole new car.

Granted it's not the same kind of boost as supercharging would bring, but it makes the car that much more fun to drive.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

Why couldn't you just bolt on a turbo package instead? Gambit was even selling his MY08 GT.B stock turbo parts and pieces.

You got a pic of your engine bay? The raptor kit was originally designed for an 04 impreza rs, so some things in our lib engine are different (mine is an 04 lib)
EG
clutch master cylinder
power steering hose
some fuel rails
some electrical harnesses (where the BOV should mount)
the manifold itself (its bigger than the 04 rs)

Not to mention the libs are FBW from 04 onwards, whereas the 04 rs was cable throttle!

A twin turbo B4 front cut is for sale on rexnet for $1500

Transplant that into your car, it would be insane
