Hi, 2002 rx. I have a squeak coming from the engine when you slightly touch the throttle or drive under slight labour. I was told it could be the alternator , is this a common fault. any help would be great. thanks John.

Probably need to tighten or replace your drive belts.

yeah that will most likely be timing belts. dont do what i did and get it fixed AFTER the belt came off. nearly cost me an engine (not on my lib)

Yes another person has the same problem ...
well we where thinking it was belts but they are tight and have put a little soap on them to ...
The only thing we could think it could be was a engine mount ?
I should post a new thread with a video of the sound so you can see what i mean.

The a/c belt tensioner bearings often wear out, is that still ok?

Can you upload a small video or audio clip of the noise?

I've found with older Subarus that as the rear muffler gets old and bits inside break down that they can whistle or squeak, maybe it could be that? are you sure the noise is definitely from the engine?

does the squeak change, go or stay when you push the clutch pedal (when stationary)? it could be the thrust bearing on the diaphragm spring (I have this one, grrrrr)

possibly even a dual mass flywheel squeak, they're damn annoying!

Yes it seems ok only has done 120thousand kms we checked it.

Yes i have a video just need to upload it :)

Its definitely engine but could be a join in the exhaust ?
well not sure about the clutch but when you rev it goes away for a little bit
Mostly when you have just changed gear and get on the throttle and makes a little squeak :/
I will get that video up now :)
