Buy a new car....geees, save yourself the effort.
It's not like you would be breaking new territory as other people have done it in the past no doubt, just seems like a waste to me if it's going to cost THAT much.

what about a half/front cut from a w/off tb sti and do a transplant?

That's how I ended up with a 1J (twin turbo) cressida a few years ago.

I'd rather not have to buy a new car.

I'll just fix up the head gasket issue.

my mate is going to let me work with him to do it so saving a lot in labour costs.

Beefing up the internals would cost a lot more than just the head gasket, theres a fair bit of $$ involved with pistons, rods etc.

Looks good, good luck with the build!

Fuel pump: the Walbro is very loud and the whining nature of the noise can slowly drive you insane after a while.
AVO: I have had mixed experience in their knowledge. I called them regarding a potential issue regarding their downpipe that I have on my car, and got advice which was not correct.

As boring as that sounds, it's a far better option. I've been down this path before (thinking of fitting a 3S-GTE or even a 7A-G(T)E to an AE112 Corolla, heavy work on an ST205 Celica GT-Four) but at the end of the day it's dead money.
Ultimately it's your decision, what you get out of it isn't resale value but the experience and knowledge, you have to weigh up the benefits versus other option/s.

I did pour a heap into the cress - upgrading the rest of the car to make it drivable with that power, and that was one of the reasons I sold it in the end.

But It's pretty much all dead money though, isn't it? No one really mods a car with the mindset of making money off it.

Like that ad on the radio - is any major part of your car made of solid gold? Or can it transport you back to any point in time? If not, you probably own a depreciating asset. :P

Ultimately, mods ARE worth more money off the car than on the car (when you sell it).

my other car isnt a depreciating asset :) its actually increasing in value
So i rekon just get this heap running properly again (still driving it with the blown head gasket) and investing more into the ute which i already have half the engine component for

Value is a component of both supply and demand... unless your car is rare as hen's teeth (scarce in supply), AND people really want it over other alternatives (high in demand)... then I don't think it'll appreciate in value :D

yawn - can you tell I used to do economics in uni?

meh, scarcity etc. no thanks

its in demand, been offerd twice what has been spent on it, and about 3 times too from different people.

Should increase a bit more, one last show then the motor comes out, stroked to 393, huge cam, lots of head work, big single plane manifold, 4k stall and 4.11s

Well that one does have higher demand and lower supply for it :) but the Liberty...

Btw - you should contact me in regards to getting your vehicle photographed
