The DMF noise shouldn't be related to the steering wheel turning; you may be experiencing a different problem.

In a nutshell, DMF = greater moving parts in an effort to reduce NVH levels. The downside is greater complexity in the mechanism and less durability for spirited driving.

But using the SMF, it would be better for driving-durability but less NVH etc?

Thanks

The SMF is more durable but the result is slightly more NVH. The way I see it is if the NVH was really a problem then Subaru would not have gone back to using a SMF after 2004-2005.

the MY07 2.5i i had also had DMF

my guess is that subaru realized that it was costing them too much in terms of warranty repairs and decided to go back to a SMF.

Any power steering pump will make loud noises when you are on full lock. The owner's manual tells you not to hold it there for long.
Are you talking about something other than the pump noise?

Yeah, I think that is the squeaking noise from the steering. When my car is not moving, and the steering in full lock(left or right), it makes a squeaking noise. But when U Turn, in very slow speed, it also squeaking.

Well, if the manuals say so, then I won't do it. I don't want to wreck my car... LOL

Having just had to organise some temporary repairs to my power steering I have come to realise just how much pressure the system can be under. At rest the hydraulics are at around 180psi, but at full steering lock it can get up to 1,000psi or beyond. Basically you don't want to be holding that sort of pressure for any period of time longer than a second or two unless you want your pump or other parts to wear out very quickly.

@-tek

Did you know where to buy those exedy kits?

If I need to change, then I would probably buy the exedy since I know those are a good brands.

The Exedy kit inc solid flywheel is 815 from Better Brakes in Mitcham (vic). Repco and Autobarn also can get Exedy parts I believe but probably more $. Any reputable transmission service outlet should be able to source one for you.
