K&N air filter

Postby RedDragon » Sat Dec 27, 2008 4:28 pm

Does anyone have a K&N pod or pannel filter in their 2.5? Did you find a change in performance?
Thanks,
Jon

pod filters probably wont have much of a performance impact on N/As
to get more go out of an N/A, you need to do internal engine work

pod filter/intakes/direct piping/exhausts wont have much of an impact ( <1kw)

blademaster's on the money. On their own, aftermarket filters do little for performance. Their usefullness comes in when you can recycle them by cleaning them out rather than chuck them out and buying a new one. They will add a bit of noise but you can save money buy removing the resonator for added noise. But when combined with other mods they become more effective.

put a HKS one in my 2.5i, took out the milk bottle.

sounds MUCH better when you floor it.

can hear the induction noise.

but i'm pretty sure you can hear the insuction noise on the OEM filter, just by taking the milk bottle out.

I was wondering the same. Can only guess the reference is to the resonator

Yup. It's a white plastic container that looks very similar. :D But yeah, the main purpose Subaru put it in is to quieten the intake system for a more comfortable drive. Remove it and you get some decent induction noise. :D

Heh-heh, when EJ25 removed his and punted his 2.5i around a parking lot, I thought he got an exhaust because I could hear it quite clearly.

Not on the GT either. Just need to remove the entire air filter box to get to it.

no on the 2.5i.

you will need a 10mm socket and some extenders(to make life easier)

it's in the same spot for the 2.5i and the GTB.

I realise this is a little off topic but on the 3.0 there is no resonator in the air filter box. There is however something that I guess is the resonator in the box onto the throttle

Are we talking about the same white container resonator underneath the air box behind the headlight?
