2007 GT auto transmission question

Postby Stifull » Fri Jun 28, 2024 9:53 pm

This car doesn't get driven much but I was using it today and noticed on 2 occasions when i had it in SS mode that there was a shudder when it went from 1st to 2nd.. I checked the transmission fluid level in park when hot with the engine idling and the fluid was about 6-7 mm below the 'LOW' hot mark.. I forgot to smell it but the color was good. I'l smell it tomorrow.. What oil does it take, is it a big internal, make a huge mess type panel filter in behind a dozen screws and gasket or a normal easy to swap engine type oil filter.. If it is a panel filter type I am tempted to top it up via the dip stick tube.. I did use search but I got mostly posts about power steering stuff or Yowie's Forester which is probably different. I am quickly getting to the stage where I am tired of working on cars. We have 14 cars here and 4 of them are project or dead cars belonging to my sons who also have bikes or company cars as well so there is no incentive for them to do anything with the dead ones. Thanks for reading..

I take our cars to Western Suburbs Automatics (Rocklea) for services (incl power flush) - which are reasonably priced.

There are probably options closer to your place.

Letting the auto trans people do their thing might be more fun that crawling around under the car & tinkering with that stuff.

Thanks mate. I have no intention of messing with 5eat ! If I knew what fluid brand grade etc etc I would top it up but as I do not know that I will get Subi Evo to do it. Their prices and expertise are very good.

An update about this issue, I had the oil in the 5eat changed as well as the diff oils as the transmission has, during winter, been very jerky for the first 1-2 klm then once warm it is smooth and if it wasn't for the engine noise you wouldn't notice the changing. The morning after the trans oil was changed last week I started the car for the first time, I only got about 500 meters and several lights on the dash came on, cruise, traction control, CEL and oil temp light .. I drove it over to Subievolution and Russel put the MUT on to check for issues and it said that sensor 1 which is an external sensor and sensor 2 which is an internal sensor both showed up.. Russel cleared the codes , turned it off and then restarted the car and within a couple of seconds the lights were again flashing and it was the external sensor again. He again cleared the codes and the lights haven't come back on despite several 6-10 klm trips. The jerking gear changes are still there for the first few minutes and then it is perfect again. I have found that as I am allowing the engine to warm up I put the transmission in Neutral the trans warms up a little and the jerking is not as bad but is still there. I am not keen on buying a new external sensor if it turns out to be the internal or visa versa .. If anybody has a known good external one they can supply to help with diagnosis and potentially sell me I would much appreciate it. We have to go down to Sydney for a wedding on the 4th of next month and I would much prefer to drive down in the Liberty than my WRX which just had it's timing belt kit replaced today as it was due and I didn't want to start out on a 2500klm round trip with an overdue timing belt but I still have 12 days to get the Liberty sorted. I hope someone here is familiar with this issue and knows the fix..
