Its not next to it, there is nothing there. There are pictures of engine bays having them on just before the intake pipe. But mine doesn't.

Map sensor measures air pressure. Maf sensor measures airflow. The photos posted are a map sensor.

I realise there is a more recent thread on this topic, but in case anyone reads it, the posted photos are not MAP sensors.
They are MAF sensors, which are always found in the air intake. Note that my Forester has one such as in the photos, and it is a MAF & IAT combined. It is easy enough to verify what it is, by putting the printed part number into Google.
The MAP sensor is normally situated near the throttle body and is connected to it via a tube, as the MAP sensor measures air pressure on the engine side of the butterfly valve.

Needless to say, but the air pressure in the air duct is simply atmospheric air pressure.

Sorry, that's not correct. The pictures are of a MAF sensor.

MAF (Mass Air Flow) measures air volume and density.
These sample a fixed percentage of the air flowing past them and are located in the intake ducting between air filter and throttle body.

MAP (Manifold Absoulte Pressure) measure the manifold pressure against atmospheric pressure.
These are connected to the intake manifold via a small vacuum hose, or mounted directly to the intake manifold.
