Timing Belt change at 100,000 or 125,000kms?

Postby AlpineRaven » Fri Apr 13, 2012 10:14 pm

Hey guys,
A bit of confusion - the person who sold my Liberty to me said it already has been changed but he wasn't sure as didn't have a report from Subaru at 100,000 service. I was reading off somewhere on the forum it says 125,000kms that timing belt needs to be changed. Liberty is now at 118,000kms and I just want to know so can have budget ready before 125,000kms.
Was planning to call Subaru next week to see if they can tell me if it has or not.
Cheers

It is included in the 125,000 or 60 month service. I know because I am about to have mine done. Subaru dealership indicated it would be about $900 for this service.
ASCII a stupid question, get a stupid ANSI!

I was pretty sure it was supposed to be changed at the J Internal in the service book, which from memory was 100,000K's. And my info came from Subaru too when I queried about my last service (Interval J at 75,000K's)... Will have to check the book again...

But I've also had it recommended to me that if time is coming before kilometres, you should change the timing belt by the end of the third year of the belt's life (with an absolute maximum belt life of four years).
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

Subarus PRE 2006:
Every 100,000km, full logbook service around $1200, may be more for turbos and autos.
Subarus POST 2006:
Every 125,000km. The service schedule was changed to spread out servicing costs for the customer.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.
