hey guys,
ive got a 99' RX and my speedometer needle has been playing up lately.
when the engine's cold it works fine but once warmed up, it flickers, shows half reading or just sits on zero...
im assuming there is a faulty sensor or loose connection sumwhere but i have no idea what to check.
am i better of pulling out the cluster and checking for loose connections or is there sumthing under the hood i can check first?

Have you taken out the cluster lately? I know on my Sherpa, and yeah it's a bit old school, but the speedo cable recently came loose and wasn't fully engaged into the back of the speedometre. Not sure if it is the same type of mechanical connection on your car though.
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa
Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

Whilst you were fiddling it would have been a good idea to lightly grease the speedo cable.
The 99 Libertys are an electronic speedo, cables are very old school.
As for OP, I would suggest checking the speed sensors. I have a PDF to remove and install the speed sensor 2, if you'd like me to email it to you let me know.

Sounds like the cluster could be on the way out... Or it's a faulty speed sensor.
I know of at least 1 Gen 4 owner that has had a similar problem, but it's consistent... Doesn't matter if the car is warmed up or not.

The fact that it depends on heat would mean its a sensor as they are mounted on the gearbox, therefore the heat can affect them. If the cluster was faulty it would be a consistent problem as the engine temp won't change how it responds to a signal other than coolant temp.

yea thats what I was thinking, just wasnt sure where the sensor was..
