The belt needs to be replaced on basis of not only Kms, but time as well since the material degrades and stretches over time even under limited use.

huh?
It's a toothed belt. If it slips at all, it means you've jumped a tooth, and you have big problems already.

Timing belts can slip, especially if the belt isnt tensioned to spec. and/or a pulley is not correctly mounted.

If they did, then they would stay slipped, causing all sorts of problems.

I did my own 100K service at 80XXXK, Because they cars 9 years old i decided best thing was to replace it with genuine (Connections within Subaru got it all done for 2 cartons of piss) but i did most of the work with a Subaru mechanic watching over me teaching me etc. Its surprisingly easy with just a few minor step ins from the mechanic and the car was done.

Glad to see you got her serviced and shes running fine :). jacob you will learn stuff about this car in no time. I recommend just looking at your engine bay learning where things go etc ive got pictures of my engine bay so if i remove something i can put it back, If you know any mechanics ask them to teach you about it and in no time you will learn how things work etc :) Or go to your local mechanical shop and ask if a mechanic can take you around a few cars showing you whats what (thats just an idea)

Thanks for the advice mate,
Ive got no worries with mechanics in general, Ive done a heck of a lot of work on my older cars, but the thing is the majority of my work was on.. 62 Holdens, 77 Landcruisers, really uncomplicated engine bays. Still getting with what happens at each service interval, the whole layout of a boxer engine, haha Im looking forward to having to do something with it, hopefully it wont cost me much. Need to look into some cheap mods for the beast.
again thanks for the advice, Ill probably be hitting you up with some questions in the near future. haha

+1 when I buy a new car I take photos of all the engine bay and major components from different angles, the interior and underbody etc not only so I can keep track of changes I make but so I can put things back together if I forget hehe. Also helps with planning next lot of work without having to look at the car each time.
