im using Mobil at the moment.

If it really continues to bug you, then take it to Subaru for an ECU reset. Mine started doing it on mobil too after months of use and it pissed me off. So Subaru did an ECU reset and its been running fine on any fuel since then. However i continue to use Mobil

Noticed this in my MY07 2.0R as well

Wasn't there when i test drove it. I think they used normal fuel instead of 95RON when they filled half the tank up before handing over the car

I have poured octane booster, and it hasn't made a difference, I will reset the ECU now and see if that fixs the problem.

Didn't make a difference at the beginning, but coming towards the end of a fairly long drive, it MAY have gone away. I'm not 100% sure yet, but it seemed to be alot smoother accelerating

Have you guys tried upper cylinder cleaner to rectify the problem?

Also, was the air conditioner on by any chance?

air con was definately off everytime.

what ive found is that using different fuels does make it better/worse. At the moment i dont have it at all, but it has a tendency of popping up whenever it wants and then refusing to replicate itself when it goes to Subaru.

So far ive used 4 different fuels,
1 - Shell VPower (was going fine, then started doing it and was ongoing until i switched to BP Ultimate)
2 - BP Ultimate (worked fine, did it occasionally, petrol station was a bit out of my way)
3 - Mobil 8000 (so far probably the best that I've used. Occasionally does it, however much less often than the Shell VPower)
4 - Caltex Vortex (only filled up once with it, seemed fine)

Ive also tried the 100 octane stuff from the Liberty petrol station on Princes Hwy in Mulgrave, was quite dissapointed, my car felt less powerful.

i was on my way to Subaru to pick something up and it started doing it really bad, so one of the mechanics went for a drive with me and he saw and felt what it was doing. He did an ECU reset and it solved it. Hasnt happened since. Still dont know the cause of the issue but would most definately like to know. Next service I will be getting them to check it thoroughly.

How do you reset the ECU? can I do it at home?

Cheers Adam

Remove negative terminal on battery
Press down brake pedal for 10 seconds

wait a minute or two

put back negative terminal on battery

if your radio has lost it's presets, it's been reset

im not sure about the radio presets.

when Subaru reset my ECU, my presets remained fine, also when i did disconnect my battery my presets also remained although my 'dial sweep' came back! The previous owner disabled it i think.

There's a fuse that can be removed, that will retain the presets and everything else, but clear the ECU.

I'm not sure which fuse it is, I didn't bother looking for it, battery is just alot easier

Hey I just registered an account to say thank you for this thread!! :)

Had my Liberty MY06 for about 3 weeks, after a few days it felt kinda doey so I filled it with 98 fuel and it was sweet!

Then yesterday I was pulling up to a roundabout, stabbed the gas and it sputtered and coughed real bad WTF ?!?!

Then after reading this thread I reset the ECU, when I 1st turned the key it wouldnt start but then the 2nd time it started straight up :assassin:
Warmed it up and then took it for a thrash and it felt smooth all the way up the rev range :D

So yeah! :) thanks again, I thought I was going to have to take it in and spend $100's to get it checked out.

Hey, just another thankful liberty owner.
I also have this same problem where there is lack of acceleration between 2500rpm and 3500rpm, I had a few mechanics say it was my clutch, but wasn't too sure.
After reading this post, I tried the ECU reset for myself and problem gone =)

Although, the problem has come back every now and then, and I find myself having to reset the ECU each time, and each time the problem goes away.
Does anyone know if this is bad for the ECU in anyway or did anyone ever find out where the problem originated from?

Either ways, thanks again!

Problem originates from bad fuel.

Could be from carbon buildup (try Upper engine cleaner), or even a dirty fuel filter etc, bad spark plugs etc. But the general consensus is that it happens from using bad fuel.

You can reset the ecu as many times as you like, no problems whatsoever.
