2.0 N/A Exhaust

Postby GhettoGX » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:53 am

while my 2,5T is getting built, i decided i wanted a bit of note on my Gen 3 2L non turboe Liberty.

now, i had them put on 2 1/4 cat back, no mufflers, just a fairly large resonator and into a 5 inch cannon.

it sounds good, but doesnt have the Subaru rumble, its there, but not pronounced like other cars. as my mate says, it doesnt sound like a wet fart, it just sounds like a normal 2L with an exhaust and a bit of a rumble.

i went to my local exhaust place, and they said there is nothing i can do about it.its just the way the 2L non turbo is made they said.

is this true..? as im pretty sure i have heard non turbos have a pretty damn loud rumble

I have a 95 2.2 NA with a 2 1/2" (2nd car) cat back exhaust fitted. It has a smallish resonator with a straight through muffler.

It rumbles like you would not believe - sounds exceptional. I would suggest that it is the "large" resonator that is killing your sound.

Easy answer is Gen 3 2 ltr Liberty has equal length headers so you wont get the rumble no matter what catback you put on it.

i was told on another forum that this is not true, the headers are unequal length on all...

The only equal (or close enough) headers on N/A Subaru's are the one the "wrap" around the oil filter.
Yours are un-equal length, but not as un-equal as the Borla's or eBay Borla's replica's.

If you really want abit of sound, get a 2 1/4" cat back with a resonator and what ever rear muffler you want.

No, not really. Just the one about Gen 3 2l headers.

After actually reading your post, it has to be the resonator as someone else mentioned.
Is it actually a resonator or a small muffler?

no its a resonator, but i have since had it removed, it is now alot louder, growls a little more, but nowhere near as much as i have heard others...

it is now a 2 1/4 cat back, straight thru into a cannon
