Hi guys
Need some help
I was taking apart my engine bay today so I could detail it
(severe ocd+alcohol)
Lol :)
When I noticed this wire that was dangling almost to the floor
It comes out at the firewall

My question is .......
Does anyone know what it is and what it is for ?
I have never seen this wire before and I most certainly never removed it in the first place !!!!
We have owned the car since 2008
Any help is greatly appreciated :)

On my No.2 Son's MY09 2.5i and my MY05 3.0R-B the black grommet you show does not have a penetration.
There are no wires passing through that hole space?
It is a plain blanking plug.

It is difficult to see from your images, but the two wires appear to be pushed through a hole in the plug/grommet that has been punched by others?
Also, the plug you are showing at the end of the wire is not in focus? So very hard to see what type of electrical connector and insulating boot is on the end?

So, if you are not the original owner, then maybe you might ask the previous owner what aftermarket accessories were fitted.

Hi
And thank you for your response
We purchased the car from a car yard in 2008 with very low k's
So can't really ask the previous owner unfortunately :(
I have to resolve it as it's constantly in the back of my mind lol
Better pic
Hope this helps

Have you chased where it runs too inside the car?

My guess would be it's something the previous owner has added as it's not a factory style connector.

Reminds me a bit of the connector for the starter motor.

Maybe they previously wired in a push to start button?

Either way it looks like it's not important and wont be harmful if its just removed catefully by finding where it leads into the cabin.

I've done an engine swap and taken apart the engine on this make and haven't actually come across such a wire so it wouldn't be for anything critical.

The second larger diameter wire shown in the second picture, the larger wire that is clipped into the vehicles wiring clips, is also not original.
What purpose does this wire serve? To where is this wire routed?
These may be the missing pieces to the "what is it?" puzzle?
Cheers!

Louis, with so many items common to a single point of failure [abs light with handbreak (sic) light came on, the speedo stoped working and all windows not working all at the same time] maybe you should track down a suitable factory service manual and comb the wiring section for what, which is the common point of weakness.

This being a Liberty forum, we do not necessarily know which series Impreza is 2007?

Maybe there is a common fuse supplying these functions?
What has been noted from Liberty information is that the ABS warning light is driven from a current sinking signal off the ABS control module.
So, for the ABS warning light to be ON, there is power to the waring light LED however the ABS module is prematurely sinking the current to ground, turning the LED ON.
This points to the ABS module being included in the issue.

My best advice is for you to get hold of a friend with access to Subaru Select Monitor and determine what Diagnostic Trouble Codes are presently being recorded. That will be a good first starting point.
