Hey guys, can anyone tell me if I need to drill in an extra bung to install a wideband sensor into a HKS dump pipe. Im interested in getting an air fuel ratio gauge.

The dump has 2 bungs, one before and one after the cat but I think theyre both in use already. Please correct me if im wrong.

If I do need another bung, where on the dump is the best place to put it?

Yes, you need another bung pretty much next to the one before the cat, mine is a prefl, but you can see the gist here:

Or run an aftermarket wbo2 sensor, that also has scalable narrowband output, in the stock prefl bung.
Iirc an innovate lc-2 has the dual output option...

I have a 2j9 with the narrowband output and looked into this - it is much harder to do it than it seems, and my tuner (matt)/specifically said not to. Post fl might be different, but the sensors worked differently. I read several threads of people tweaking the narrowband output by flashing the 2j9. It just seemed like a lot of trouble for no actual gain - do you know of anyone who has done this in a lib?

Typical Bosch wideband / narrowband uses voltage as the narrowband output. Subaru uses Amperage

I'd discussed this with Matt via pm but didn't get the update.

Re the OP: most wbo2 kits will be supplied with a bung to be welded into the dump.
Plus instructions on the reccomended location.
Afaik the jury is still out on whether to use heat sinks or bung extenders if the sensor is mounted within 12" of the turbine outlet. So I'll do some experiments to see what the effect is

Mine didn't, but you can just buy them from exhaust shops,I got mine from eBay for $10 iirc.

Thanks for the replies guys, ive been looking at getting the new Tanabe VLS gauges. From the pics it looks like it contains the bung but im not sure whether I wanna drill into my HKS dump. Undecided at the moment.

You could get an extended harness and put it in the mid pipe

I got HKS mid pipes and dont really wanna drill into that either lol. Also I read that the ratio will be off if installed after the cat.

Btw on the topic of widebands, just wondering if its extremely necessary, nice to have or not required at all if im planning to get a dyno tune soon.

Does having a wideband sensor installed help the tuner get me better results?
