Hey all,

Recently purchased a 2006 Liberty 4spd Auto sedan with 118k on the clock. Had a major service done last Friday and now looking to replace the timing belt and water pump.

My question is, does anyone know the best place to locate the kit? EJ20 / DOHC kit seems hard to find??

Thanks for reading and what a great forum.

Cheers, S

I bought my kit for my wife's car at repco.

I bought a Gates brand kit which had a new hydraulic tensioner in it on special for $418. Full retail was around $650, I was dead stoked when the lady behind the counter just sold it to me at cost price...... or whatever, I was just happy with the cost compared to Subaru Genuine.

I did however go genuine with the oil pump seals, internal and external. They were shaped differently and prior experience has shown me that genuine seals like that shouldn't be replaced with aftermarket unless apsolutely necessary. It was a cheap enough exercise.

I refitted the original water pump with a new seal. It was in truly superb condition upon inspection, with smooth and play free bearings, and the impeller looked immaculate. So I returned the new gates one I had bought.

All the best.
