Hey

Not sure whats the cause, my 'Malfunction' light is on constant when engine is running and the cruise control light is flashing. Cruise control is not working....everything else seems fine.
Anyone else come across this? I just had a major service and 100 pt check. Nothing was picked up at the time.

Any pointers would be a great help.

Cheers Vince

Could be anything mate. Take it to your mechanic/dealer (mechanic will be cheaper generally) and get the Check Engine Light code read with an OBDII scanner.

Alternatively there may be someone in your area (forum member) that has one and could help you out.

Need error codes..
My 06 Liberty had same lights flashing. Turned out to be the dreaded 'Secondary Air Pump failure'. Car still ran fine regardless.
Please get two mechanical opinions though, a Subaru dealership quoted 5k to supply and fit the needed parts. I decided to order parts online
and get a Subaru specialist mechanic to fit them- total $1700!

For an 06 2.5L, you can disable the CEL code, disable the factory pump and be done for under $80 ;)

As the engine ecu controls the cruise control, it is a normal occurance to have the crusie light flash when there is an engine management malfunction, this is for safety reasons that the crusie is disabled.
There can be a number of reasons why the engine light is on, can be related to engine management or if your vehicle is auto it may also be a mil request from the transmission. 1st step would be to determine what the CEL reads then take the action required to resolve it.
From my own experience the Hitachi ECU is not open source if the problem is secondary air related. You would need to renew the faulty bits or fit a secondary air eliminator.
But as i said first thing first. Determine the cause by someone who can review the data correctly.

hope that helps
