Buying a 04 liberty

Postby Matt89 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 8:57 am

Hi guys I'm looking at buying a 04 liberty sedan, it's 5 speed manual. There's a few things worrying me though, first it has 200000 km on it, is this a huge amount for a liberty, apparently it's been we'll maintained, is there anything I should look out for?
Also it is only a 2l non turbo which apparently only does 0-100 in 11 seconds which seems very slow, does this figure seem correct? The price is cheap enough so it might still appeal to me.

Any help is appreciated, cheers.

I would go for at least an '06 in the 2 litre. That's when they changed to the 2.0R.
2.0i - SOHC & 101kw 2.0R - DOHC & 121kw. They also added a few extras as standard; 17's, climate control, fog lights to name a few.

Be aware though, my opinion may be a little biased :P

I have an 04 liberty wagon 2.0i manual. Yes that time is right very slow. Compaired to my 04 outback 2.5 manual 8.2 time. The kms aren't really a problem it's only a number. Get a pre purchase inspection done to make sure the servicing was done correctly and you should be sweet.
But be aware at 200000kms timing belt needs changing which isn't very cheap.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not really a power sort of guy, I used to drive a 30 year old mini with a 1L engine, but I guess I'll just have to drive it to see how bad it is. Ill be sure to check the log books out and see if the major service has been done already. How much would you be looking at for the 200000 km service?

Around $1000 I believe, if there are no other issues.

I'm with Kormoran on this... hahaha maybe I'm biased too...

I'm not a person that's fussed with 0-100km/h times, just a car that sounds goood and handles well. And the 2.0R does just that. In WA, a reasonably good conditioned 2.0R will range around $14,500 - $17,000
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!
