Recently found out that jdm GT is open deck, cast internals.
Altough jdm has different pistons(lower compression), heads dual AVCS)
and inlet maifold system it could be done.
Sadly there is no safe bolt on kit as it appears.
Curious, but what You probably already know- crank and oil pump are same
for all EJ20 02-06 (except nitred crank in 04 STI UK)
Also rods are same for 2.0R, 2.0GT and REX at least according to opposedforces.

Alof of incorrect info so I will correct some of it according to my limited knowledge

2.0 GT (jdm and adm) were 9.5:1 static compression ratio so not "lower" compression (unless you're comparing to the jdm n/a cars). These are the highest compression turbo motor to come out of the Subaru factory

Pistons are cast but rods are forged and not the same as any other 2.0 litre Subaru (that extends to both n/a and turbo 2.0l)

Oil pumps are completely different on the ej20y. 12mm oil pump all other Subaru pumps were 8-11mm until the grb 2.5 Sti.

Robbks is spot on in terms of turbo sizing. If you wanted to do this you would need a much higher flowing and larger reat turbo housing. Your high compression will generate alot more cylinder pressure than a more "normal" turbo engine

Infact a small housing not only will be out of its efficiency range very quickly but will also provide a restriction which will cause detonation.

Read again.
Correct opposed forces if You wish.
My car is 11,1:1 CR, differend piston and head design from jdm GT there for
GT has lower compression.
Funny when You find something out suddenly every one else knows..
Unless OZ spec is different then apologies...

No problem sunshine

I didn't think anyone was silly enough to compare turbo engine to non turbo for static compression and point out that the GT was lower than a performance n/a motor, thus why I pointed out the compression difference thinking you were comparing turbo motor to turbo motor. Obviously I was wrong and you are, infact, silly.

As for me all of a sudden knowing things after you pointed them out - I say :D

Good luck to you with everything....

Yeh.
+1
I was pointing out material and parts diference.
Can I turbo my engine? I can do watever I want.

Re-read my posts and you can see who is smart, and who is being an ass ;)

I was trying to clear up some info for you. I have researched these engines more than you can imagine and was sharing some of that with those that cared to listen. Know the dynamic compression of these motors at different boost? Part numbers to boot? What about the differences in case markings and webbing to differentiate them from other similar based ej208 older style blocks?

I also have experience with different turbo setups on these and other motors including a 10.8:1 compression 3sge celica running 10psi.

Now pull your head out your posterior and read my posts again with a cool head.

By all means was not saying you shouldn't turbo the motor (made clear by my example of turbo you need)

If you saw this as me being a smart ass and tacking on to your "info" after you posted it then I really don't know what else to say to you....

So again and last time as this is boring.
Yes. You are correct in what You say (happy?)
Altough as I said according to opposed forces longblock difference
between 2.0R and 2.0GT limit only to pistons and head assy.
Going further some parts are same for 2.0R and WRX STI- like
oil pump(by part number)
If any one is unhappy with that they shall review opposed forces.

Target of this practise is to point out differences between BL5 2.0 n/a DOHC
and BL5 2.0 TURBO ( to be precis- pre facelift).

That's that.

daddykubs wrote:Hi guys.
I have a theoretical idea ( at least for now)
General market EJ204 is 165hp with CR 11.1:1 AVCS
JDM market EJ204 is 187hp with CR 11.5:1 Dual AVCS and variable intake manifold (?)

Now I read about Forester, Liberty/Legacy and Outback being turboed with AVO kits.
unning strong at up to 6psi.
Base was EJ25 170hp with CR 10:1
At up to 6psi running on 93-95 octane fuel engines reach safely (apparently)
190whp 200ft of torque without forged pistons and rods !!!!

I know it is expensive to charge n/a but high enough power for 2 liter engine
combined with small charger that spools quick could be quite responsive
and firey combo than GT.
Idea is to have around 230hp on flywheel, small Fmic, maybe oil cooler in place
of tmic, wrx injectors, fuel pump and some small turbo.
It won't ever outrun mapped GT , but this wouldn't be a target.
I'm interested if oil and coolant amount changes after conversion.
Or
Stay n/a, port polish, get biger injectors and pump, agressive camshafts and remap and
hopefully get 200+ n/a power??

Did anyone try to charge n/a 2.0R?
Could be cool project...

You sound like me 7yrs ago. The only difference is that I was going to use the Hydra EMS, Kelford B or WRX cams and the Garrett GT3076R or GTX3071R
