Matt, would be great if you could get some more information on how to clean it up. as I see it, it's all encapsulated and it's impossible to open (the part where the position sensor sits, probably with the servo you mention). I'm talking about the throttle body. if it's something else they have cleaned up, don't be shy asking and taking photos ;)
My car is on sale now so this might be one last thing to try ;)

Hey guys just joining in on the subject,
Just start from the start 1999 impreza started bogging down and not taking off at the lights and you could hear an intake noise that is low and sounds fuel less. Soo far I have put new plugs, leads, coil, map sensor, oxy sensor, knock sensor. Fuel pump flow and pressure is perfect. Tested the car with exhaust un-bolted. I have replaced power leads and earths and everything.
No fix.
Computer says nothing wrong. No codes and all voltages are correct. I disconnect battery for 5 minutes and re install and then the car will start and stall instantly. I then restart the car and it drives perfect for a day or so the back to the lack of power on take off, you could literally run faster than the car on take off for the first 30metres. I have multiple EFI specialist look into the car. Absolutely no result. Next on the list is the EGR clean out. Ill keep everyone updated but I just wanted to confirm that we all have the same problem.

Sounds similar to what we experience here, apart from stalling. Seems like you have invested a lot of money already! Log the drive, any knock corrections going to -10 and less ?

Use freeSSM to pull 3 degrees of timing. Seems to have solved it for me.

2500k's and hasn't done it since.

That is interesting. Are we talking about ignition timing or VVT? did that anyhow affect the fuel economy? Also, not sure whether this would be so easily applicable on these Hitachi ECU's, but you might know better. So far I haven't been able to use freeSSM with that VAGCOM cable I got, but I haven't put the ECU in test mode neither. RomRaider works ok.

Ignition timing, VAG com will work with fressm, you might need to fiddle with COM port settings to get it going. My economy has stayed the sane 9.8 vs 10 with a 50/50 mix of city and highway driving.

The post facelifts are able to do it, the only preface lift (a 2.5NA) I have looked at didn't so someone will need to confirm.

ECU does not have to be in test mode to change things in freeSSM.

well in that case I have wrong cable as I cannot connect via freeSSM, it uses one of those CH340 drivers, it's not the FTxxx chipsets. It passes the connection test, but when trying to get to the ENGINE, it just fails with some message. PM Sent.

With my cheap KKL cable I can connect with freeSSM, no problem.

it seems to be a hit and miss with these cables. There are 2 types of them, one with the FTDI chipset, and one with this CH340 one. They look completely different when looking at the chipset. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 994p2.html

G'day fellas,

After a month or so of not touching a subaru.... I feel much better.

So being a sucker for punishment I went downstairs, stripped the car cover off the liberty and fired her up.

The honda has been parked and im going to give the subaru a stab again. So I am starting with a fuel additive to see if I can stop the 'false knock' which was mentioned here the other day..... If that works... Yay. If not.... Its seeya later liberty 2.0r.

Will be replaced by a 2.5 manual wagon :)

After 3000km flat spot returned. Took it back to JFM and they repeated the cleaning procedure as before (nothing fancy, just UCC in the throttle body after watching) however the same day the flat spot came back (even after resetting it myself it came back almost straight away). The only things thats changed in my driving habits its been pretty hot the last few days so ive had the ac on constntly and Ive done alot of stop/start driving.. Back to the drawing board it seems
