Hey guys, i currently have an 03 GX liberty.
ive been looking to upgrade to a gen 4 and in my price range would be a prefacelift 2.5 or a facelifted 2.0r and if im lucky a 2.5
basically my question is, how bad is the 2l? on redbook it says its a whole 2 seconds faster 0-100 and at first i didnt think it was much
but my dads new car is less than a second faster than his old car, and you can feel a huge difference.
i really like the look of the facelift model so just wondering is it worth sacrificing a 2.5l for a 2l because of the age of the car and looks?

Hey mate, I can tell you that the 2.5i NA's really do hold their own in regular street driving, having seen a lot of them in action on some cruises this year, they do have some go in them.
Seeing as you said you currently have a car, if you are really desperate on a 2.5 for the added performance then you would be doing yourself a favour in saving a little more money before you make a decision, to give you some more options.
Also I see you have green P's in your profile picture, will you still be on your P's when you purchase this car?
I cannot emphasise enough how amazing it was for me to wait until I was 21 to purchase a turbo car, rather than buying a car I would regret once I hit 21 and therefore had the license to drive something with more power.
Or alternatively you could buy a 3.0R instead, but I have only sat in Ric's 3.0RB (pre) for a few minutes so I really can't give you any info on the power of it, but needless to say it would be a lot quicker than a 2.5 NA.

thanks for that
Well i get off my p-plates in january, and was also looking at the 04-06 2l turbo's, but heard that insurance on them can be a killer.
the 3.0 is definantly an option, been in Noozl's one and definantly has enough power, but the foglight surround on the prefacelift really is a turn off for me lol
and the 07 onwards are way out of the price range for a 3.0
Never been a fan of high power, so for me performance would not be the final deciding factor, but would definantly want a huge improvement from my gx which is completly shocking lol

I'm not sure what your price range is, but an 07 2.5i can be had for $20k or so, and they really do have some decent kick in them, with the added bonus of having lots of mods available to increase handling / aesthetics too.
Anyway best of luck mate.

Given the same price I would rather buy a 2.5i pre facelift, rather than a 2.0r facelift. In fact that's what I did

U seem your too caught up in power, the 2.0/2.5i litres liberties are over geared and feel sluggish at the best of times.
if u want power without spending big money buy a ford or holden!

Insurance will be a killer regardless of your car you choose OP if it's anything considered 'sporty' by an insurance company, which is pretty much EVERY god damn car that has more than 2.0L with a 'sports suspension'.
And Marki if he is worried about insurance premiums then opting for some run of the mill VX SS piece of crap (lets face it they really are terrible) is still going to come with the drawback of high insurance price.
Also OP said he isn't a fan of high power, he just wants a bit of go, and the 2.5i's are from what I can gather exactly what the OP is looking for, with the added bonus of handling very well with a few simple mods I think that's the better choice over a falcodore.

Rather than bumping 1 year old threads all the time, hows about you just click the search button and type in a few search terms until you find what you are looking for.
For example,
search.php?keywords=oil+recommendation&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
